Bernard Richard Deetman
Rick Deetman has extensive personal injury litigation and subrogation
experience. He has handled more than a thousand accident cases through
settlement, arbitration or trial.
Rick is a graduate of the University of California at San Diego, with a BA
in Economics and a minor in Political Science in 1980, and is a graduate of
the University of San Diego School of Law, earning a Juris Doctor in 1985.
Rick began his legal career with an insurance defense firm in San Diego in
1985, where he specialized in general liability defense, emphasizing motor
vehicle accidents, uninsured motorist claims and dangerous road cases. While
there he worked on cases for many of the major insurance companies and
several public entities within San Diego County and Imperial County. He also
began his representation of accident victims.
In 1992, Rick started his own practice, specializing in personal injury
litigation for accident victims. Since that time, the firm has helped
accident victims achieve millions of dollars in compensation for their
injuries.
Rick has successfully taken to arbitration or trial the most contentious
accident and subrogation cases. His cases have made new law and have been
reported in a number of appellate court opinions.
Rick has authored numerous articles on personal injury law for newspapers
and for peer journals, and has been interviewed many times on the radio
about personal injury topics.
Rick's public speaking skills have been featured in his participation on the
speaker's committee of past U.S. presidential campaigns.
For many years, Rick has formed and counsels non-profit organizations on a
pro-bono basis and has served as chairman of the board of directors of
several non-profit groups.
On a personal level, Rick is the father of two children. He enjoys sports,
coaches pop warner football, and is a long time runner, surfer and martial
artist.
